Episode #031 – The Snort Of Subconsciousness

Carrie told Josh and Luke that they were going to go to Chipotle for dinner, and then she made them go to Noodles & Company instead. The fact that this episode of our podcast has music by Carrie Dahlby, Judy Tenuta, Adam Sandler, and Brian Posehn does not change the fact that Carrie’s unwillingness to take a one minute walk around the building to the other side where the entrance to Chipotle was on this not-as-cold-as-it-has-been-lately evening meant that Josh and Luke were deprived of their burrito-riffic deliciousness. All Luke could think about as he wrapped up his recurring bully story segment, discussed the future of finance as it relates to Napster and Star Trek, and explained why he was standing in his bedroom in the dark for 5 minutes in the middle of the night 2 days ago, was the spicy chicken shaped void in his gullet, and just how cold and bleak the winter solstice really can be… …He also thought about how by the time he got home his in-laws will have finished installing the new dishwasher and garbage disposal. So, Happy New Year everyone!

  1. I was hoping to attend the Dec 24th service at PRCC but was too tired. It might be for the best since I would had been inspired to counter the sermon and advise people to find their own thing to inspire them to keep on living as Marscon does for many of us.

I agree with the thought process of wanting certain people from my youth dead.

Somehow, though I was familiar with the song title I had never heard the Adam Sandler song before that needs to be played on the show where I advise my mom to not listen.

While driving with my daughter in the back seat, Carrie commented about making sure kids were not in the room. I contemplated the idea of doing that while on I-90 near Woodfield Mall and what would happen afterwards if I chose to do that especially without stopping the car. Then I realized it was best to just pause the ipod.

  2. Luke, I have to disagree with you. What Adam Sandler calls “comedy” is NOT funny. He has a few good songs, but his stand-up skits just bomb. Call it a difference in tastes. It is rude if your listeners ask you to put on something else that you instead put on more of what the listeners are complaining about.

  3. Luke’s talk about the disdain for money in the Star Trek universe reminded me of the last great moment I ever saw in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. For some reason Commander Sisko and Quark the Ferengi are stranded on a planet. Sisko starts preaching the Federation line about how money is part of an immature society. And amazingly, Quark turns, bares hs fangs and rips Sisko a new one. He argues that the Federation denies a basic need of all intelligent beings, and it’s a flaw that will lead to their eventual fall. It was a tour-de-force by Armin Shimerman. I said, “Yeah, Quark! Smack the smug off Sisko’s ass!” This made everybody in the room stare at me very funny.

Your story about listening to a podcast over night struck a familiar note. On my Winamp, I often go to sleep listening to audio clips of people talking. One of the playlists is every episode of Bad Rapport. Seems funny, but listening to you guys talk about your trials and tribulations helps me get to sleep. I guess it helps to know that two of the most talented, funny and wonderful people I know ALSO had crappy stuff happen to their lives. Thanks, guys. You make my night, maybe not in a way you éver expected, but hey…

  4. Off Topic: Name Change – Sean->SlightlyD (I feel shy when I hear my real name – so sue me)

Wow… that’s really not what I expected out of Judy Tenuta. I’ve only heard a live version the Pope Song previously, which of course wasn’t very polished, so I’ll assume that the level of quality was intentional. However, if it was intentional, I think Devo’s “Half-Assed Rapper” mock-lameness struck a better balance.

I was one of the people who asked for split episodes, and I’ll agree there are negative aspects to it. I’m a married man, I’m used to being wrong. I’ve since figured out how to change the “Media Kind” when I put the file on my iPod so that it handles it as a podcast and not as a music file. Now pausing, rewinding and navigating the episodes is much easier. Long episodes no longer frighten me. Three, four hours, do your worst!

Thanks for the warning about “At a Medium Pace”. I’m a brand new papa and I’ve got to limit the kinds dementia/funny music I indoctrinate my daughter with… at least until she’s much older. I recognise that this is definitely not a “G” podcast, and I’ll probably have it on ear buds when she’s around anyway. But the warning was worth it.

I agree that there are some songs that are better censored than uncensored – the Rodeo Song for one. What I imagined when I first heard the censored version of it was far more outrageous than the original. Of course the opposite would be true for the Uncle F*er song from the South Park Movie, because in this case the language is the whole joke.
