In this episode which was recorded mostly on Mother’s Day, Luke presents Carrie with her Mother’s Day gift from himself and Sara, which gets immediately critiqued by 14-month-old art critic Alex. Later that day, Josh was given large amounts of middle-eastern bread, but that has nothing to do with this podcast.
Carrie launches a new segment “Dahlby’s Dreamsicles”, where she tells us about her strange dreams, with Luke adding one of his own that is most definitely Insane-Ian-related.
In ‘Silver Lining Reviews’, Luke talks about the latest Michael Bay movie “Pain And Gain”, and Carrie talks about the Trey & Matt musical “The Book Of Mormon”.
We also get caught up with 3 episodes worth of comments, and play comedy tracks by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, Eric Coleman, Patton Oswalt, The Book Of Mormon, The Lonely Island, and C.W.A..
The art image for this episode of the Rock riding a skateboard was drawn by Lindsay Smith. ‘Cuz she’s cool like dat.

Great episode once again, guys! However…thanks, Luke. Now I can NEVER do that Folsom Prison parody I was working on… ;-P
I saw Pain & Gain this past week, and I too enjoyed it. My friend described it as if it was a 90’s Tarantino movie if Bay directed it…which kind of works. However, we had to laugh at the numerous Bay earmarks that were in it (the shots of people as if the cameraman was below them standing on a slope, the revolving shot circling from the living room to the adjacent room was directly from bad Boys 2…hell, I think the plane that flies over Tony Shaloub was the SAME one green screened in from one of those flicks).
I will say that the Rock was was a perfect fit for this movie, and I agree, as we’ve spoken about this before, that Dwayne Johnson is an amazing comedic actor. I did think before seeing this movie, however, that it might glorify the criminals, since they are the “stars” of the film, which might not bring to life that, yes, two people actually DIED in the real events of this story. Thankfully, that was not the case, as they showed, just as you said, that these guys were IDIOTS.
Side note…the actor who played Adrien (the third member of the trio of theives) is also playing The Falcon in the Captain America sequel, making him the newest addition to the ever increasing Avengers roster for the films.
That’s all for now. W00t.
Looking at the picture for this episode, I didn’t realize that was The Rock until I got to that segment of the show. Alex loves his bubbles, that was a joy to hear. Let the parental baby chasing begin! This is the first episode in a long time that I got to hear over a single day. Glad to see that the new shorter segment format is working out so well. I refuse to talk about my dreams, although waking up and realizing that I was not at the awesome con I was dreaming about is always disappointing.
In answer to the question in the comments,
(Adam West Voice On) SlightlyD – pure male. (Adam West Voice Off)
Having a 2 1/3 yo daughter right now, I can tell you I’ve seen too much children’s programming in the last couple months.
The following should die in a fire (and are pretty much banned in our house)
– Teletubies
– Barny
– Dorra
– Doc McStuffins
– Mickey Mouse Club House
The first two are just brain numbing. In the latter three the same problems happen in every episode, and the solutions are always the same. I know the last two steps on one of Luke’s sacred cows, but I don’t think they live up to Disney standards of sorry telling.
The following are watchable:
– Special Agent OSO
– Handy Manny
– Jungle Junction (particularly because Billy West is in it)
– Max & Ruby
Toddler TV in our house is pretty limited to an hour a day.
As glad I am of having toddler programming no longer in the house, the teen shows are also hit and miss. There are some episodes that I find unwatchable.
I was more concerned about not understanding Mormon than the language as far as my daughter was concerned with seeing the musical. They are just words but since I did not see the Book of Mormon, I really can’t personally determine if the content is suitable.
My difficulty with the Park Ridge performance of Beethoven’s 9th Symphony was not the quality of the music or the chorous. I found the piece repetative and lacking structure. When I researched it before hand I realized I have heard parts of it in commercials, Die Hard, and in Power Salad’s song. Once the piece started playing, I was expecting somthing different.
I wish I could have been there to see Alex take his first steps but I am not sure if that would have happened with me there.
I am sorry I missed the call. I was on my way to the car leaving my mother’s house and did not realize there was a call until a couple minutes later. On Twitter, it stated recording was happening in the morning and was not expecting that call when it was made.
Luke, listening to your old podcasts. Sorry, but I gotta disagree about the Shadow Man being a top-5 Disney villian. He’s a far cry from being a Cruella De Vil, Jafar/Iago, Gaston, Yzma/Kronck, Hades, Shere Kahn, Scar, Ursula, Captain Hook, Stromboli, Governor Ratcliffe, Maleficent, or Evil Queen.
Who are your top 10 villians?
I was just listening to episode 32 and you two were talking about microphones? What make/model of microphones do you use for podcasting? Which ones do you use for recording song lyrics? On the road recording live? What audio interfaces do you both use?
