Episode #003 – Expect The Unexpected

Against our better judgment and the sound advice of others, the episodes are getting longer. In this episode we talk about our respective Halloween experiences, Luke tells the story of his big Fat epic win, we review Schaffer the Darklord’s new CD “Manslaughterer”, and News of the Stupid gets much too silly.  Also, in a new recurring segment called “Luke Rants Incessantly About Some Bullshit His Brain Won’t Shut Up About” (thank you ShoEboX for naming that for me), Luke wails, moans, and gnashes his teeth over the greatest cinematic crime of 1993. We also play a new topical song by Steve Goodie and a classic by Julie Brown.

Speaking of which, if you are, or know of, any female comedy music acts looking for shows interested in playing their stuff, please tell us about them and send them our way. We want to make a specific effort to feature comedy music by women on the show regularly.

Also, please let me know how the overall audio quality is of the show, so I know if I am doing this right. Thanks.

  1. Small point: “Medemia” is pronounced with the loud accents on the ‘me’ and ‘mi’ (MEH-duh-MEE-uh). Think of the cadence of the brand name “Metamucil” as a mneumonic *heh*

    Love this podcast! 🙂

  2. Wasn’t it “Twist and Shout” that the Fat Boys did with Chubby Checker?
I hope you don’t just use FuMP songs every episode, that’s a problem I had with Manic Mondays. I assume 97% (just an estimate) of the listeners are already FuMP subscribers, so we don’t really need to hear songs that we just had delivered to us a day or two before.
It’s nice to hear News of the Stupid again, but I hope you guys get the hang of it, it’s not nearly as smooth as Devo’s delivery. I’m sure it took him a little while to get it, too, so I’m hopeful you will.
Otherwise, decent show, the sound quality seems fine to me.

  3. No no no, that’s supposed to be “The Twist,” not “Twist and Shout,” of course.

  4. Brilliant! Your best show yet! I can not wait for my next dose of bad rappor-y goodness. As an animation enthusiast and film-maker, I was laughing my butt off at Luke’s animation rant. Misconceptions about film and animation are so many, and so irratating. If you want to be an animation geek anymore, you’ll have at least my ear
Keep the tolerable work guys!! I can’t wait until the show is big and can honestly say I’ve been listening since the start!

  5. Luke, your talk about “cartoon voices done to previously animated cartoons” is correct, of course. The incident in “Mrs. Doubtfire” was ignorant on many levels. It would make more sense if Robin Williams’s character was a STAGE actor, who got fired for screwing up. But that would entail spending more money, paying for more actors, renting a theater.

As for Dave Coulier providing the voice for Robin Williams in the “Mork and Mindy” cartoon, I can do you one better. When I was a kid there was a cartoon called “Will the Real Jerry Lewis Please Sit Down?” It was on ABC, animated cheaply by Filmation, and it had just about every awful Lewis character ever made – Ralph Rotten, Hong Kong Flu-is, Professor Kemp (The Nutty Professor) and every mental fart Lewis ever had.

But it didn’t have Lewis. He, too, was “too big a star” to provide his voice for a cartoon. The voice was done by David L. Lander – “Squiggy” on Laverne and Shirley. In his own comedy, Lander was about five times funnier than Lewis ever was. It was a crime he had to do this terrible gig. (Please don’t look for the cartoon on the “grey market video” tables at conventions. You don’t deserve to suffer the pain.)

  6. 1. Take a drink every time Luke burps
    2. Take two drinks every time Carrie scolds him for “rude” behaviour
    3. Take three drinks every time we don’t hear Carrie scold Luke after a burp.

    — Slightly tipsy and very crazy
    Love the costume pic!

  7. Your review of Schaffer the Darklord just forced me to buy his CD. This is great stuff, so thanks!

Also, Luke, I’ve been playing some of your stuff on Cacti Radio (cactiradio.com); hope that’s okay.
