Actually, this episode is “Luke & Carrie & Matt & Ken & Josh’s Bad Rapport”, since this episode was recorded at Matt “Fringe” Duhan’s place just before his “Time Bandits” movie party, along with Ken “Madman On The Loose” Sherlock, and Josh “Mr. Carrie Dahlby” Rasey.
In this episode we discuss who from the FuMP we’d cast in the Rocky Horror Picture Show, “Luke Rants” about sex and the Heathcliff cartoon, and also gets more analytical than NASA deconstructing his updated list of his Top 50 most popular songs amongst his fans.*
We also play an oldie but goodie by Tom Smith, an awesome punk cover by the Toy Dolls, and end the show with a track by a group called Googie & Joe’s Workshop that’s so rare Dr. Demento only played it once ever back in 1982. I dare anybody to do a cover version of it.

Yikes, 70mb? Is there something we can do to keep file sizes smaller?
Haven’t listened to the show, but about all you can do to keep file sizes smaller is to (a) make it a mono MP3 and (b) reduce the sampling rate, which reduces the sound quality. If you’re worried about your server storage space, you might consider taking the old shows off the server, and putting them up for a week or so ONLY when people ask for them.
Ken and Josh make GREAT Blues Brothers! But they need better fedoras, not those cheap felt costume hats. Remember: all-black, wide-brimmed, black hatbands, and none of those foofy colored feathers stuck in the brim. And if they actually want to sing…they should NOT sing “Soul Man.” They should try “Everybody Wants Somebody to Love,” as sung in the Blues Brothers movie soundtrack.
Regarding the file size, I don’t think it’s a problem, but you could drop the bitrate on the just spoken parts. Apparently this is called VBR (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Variable_bitrate). You need an encoder that will support it, but it gets you the best of both worlds – smaller files and higher quality fur the music clips. Most modern players will support it as well.
Or, you could set up a second low bitrate feed for the “Wahhhh… I don’t have broadband” crowd.
@Carrie: Export the final MP3 as a 64kbps mono file. You don’t need 128kbps for a mono file (half the bitrate for half the channels). Your show is mostly talk; the music will still sound decent, just in mono.
Thanks Jared, I’ll do that for future episodes. 🙂
Ok, maybe episode 4 wasn’t the ‘best’ one to jump in on (have the rest but haven’t listened yet), it didn’t suck! Good to see you carrying on the News of the Stupid. Keep it up. 🙂
I must’ve had bad parents, because my Mom and Dad would let me watch movies like Terminator and RoboCop at age 8. Granted, they did make an effort to make sure I had a strong grip on the difference between fantasy and reality, so maybe they were awesome parents in that respect. Then again, progressive or not, letting a 9 or 10 year old boy watch Hardware, one of the movies responsible for the utterly stupid NC-17 rating? Probably not a wise move.
I think that’s a pretty awesome looking track list for a Grestest Hits record, Luke. Actually, I think there may even be room for at least another hit, since your albums have more tracks than 18 usually. May I suggest: Because I’m Jedi, Baby Got Brak, or Bart Simp Son?
I’m getting caught up on all the Podcast episodes, and I’m really loving them!
