After 4 episodes recorded mostly on my Zen player at Carrie’s house, we finally return to recording at Luke’s house on his computer with his good microphone. To maximize Carrie-comfort (TM), I brought the mic into the living room so she could sit on the couch and tend to Alex while we recorded. In this episode we call Ken, Luke wraps-up his amazing Kickstarter results, and breaks down his disorganized list of ideas for “LukeSkiCon” for all the people who donated. We also do a general review of the sitcom “30 Rock“, have News of the Stupid, and play tracks from the new Tenacious D album, as well as a track by steampunk nerdcore rapper Professor Elemental (special thanks to Number 11 for sending his CDs my way, amongst other much more significant things), a live track by Schaffer The Darklord from the Nerdapalooza 2011 live CD (an album which I am also on), and the last two Lonely Island tracks from SNL. The image with this episode is a caricature I did of Alex for Carrie for Mother’s Day, because baby baby baby baby baby baby baby baby.

The game Josh and I played is called Fleet Captains, a miniatures game based on the Star Trek universe made by Wiz Kidz.
The goal is to get victory points by completing science missions, exerting influences across regions of space, destroying enemy ships and by completing certain encounters playing as either Federation, Klingon, or in a future expansion, Romulan star ships ranging in size from the U.S.S. Equinox to the Defiant (which can cloak), to the Enterprise E version.
Cards within the game can also allow members of the Star Trek world to serve as crew for vessels which would give bonuses to ship abilities. Other cards give players the ability to improve ships, change combat situations or increase the size of their fleet.
In the last game we played, Josh’s Klingon ships had an early problem due to a Ferengi attack as my Federation fleet suffered damage from a solar flare.
Though Josh started with 3 ships to my 5, his were larger and more powerful and though I damaged his entire fleet by ejecting the warp core from my damaged Voyager blowing it up in the process, he was able to destroy enough of my ships to get to 10 victory points before I could complete enough of my science missions.
I assume that 127 people have already sent you the link to the bacon dragon cake, but I’ll do it anyway so you mention it on the show.

While we’re at it, how about the Spidercrotch cake from a while back?

Hey, I know that one, man… (Starts with a B)
I knew it when I came in here, man. (Ends with a B)
No, don’t tell me. (10 seconds, Bob)
It’s Bob!
Did you guess where I got #11 from? I got interested in Bad Rapport when I saw the first compilation on your web page, and I was apparently the eleventh person to buy a copy.
1- Bob Oedekerk is the Kung Pow guy, not Will Forte.
2- Holy crap, Luke, you would love Kung Pow.
Yes. One sock on and one sock off is a baby thing. As they advance, it progresses to various combinations of shoes, socks and bare feet.
A thought for LukeSkiCon’2013 – along the lines of the concerts and the Karaoke, what about a Fump-Karaoke?
Congrats on the Kickstarter Luke. I would’ve kicked in a few sheckles myself, but sadly I got fired on May 9th. Yeah, Taco Bell decided that the proper response to me complaining about a manager punching me in the back was to get rid of the guy who got hit. Shows how much I was valued. Sorry, that was ranty. Anyway, hopefully things will turn around enough that I can actually go to the Luke Ski con in 2013.
Regarding the guest list for DeepSouthCon: The site says Carla Ulbrich has cancelled her appearance.
Commenting this before I listen to the episode, just to mention that the CoG rocks in person, whether it’s Consortium of Genius or Confabulation of Gentry. Their trek up north didn’t go too great for them, sad to say, but they overcame adversity, even when their new steampunk-themed drum system went haywire at their sunday concert at the World Steam Expo.
As for other bands that performed there… Steam Powered Giraffe is definitely something you should look into for playing on your show.
