Episode #019 – Flat 27

After a quick non-spoiler review of “Weird Al” Yankovic’s 2010 Concert Tour, Luke and Carrie give a lengthy review of their new favorite PodCast, “Flat 29’s Big Book Of Everything”, hosted by and featuring comedy music of Dan, Charlie, and Rich of the British comedy music group Flat 29. We also discuss more cool British things than you can shake your spotted dick at. We have comedy songs from the movies “Shock Treatment” (made by Brits), “the Jungle Book” (Yanks pretending to be Brits), and the new YouTube hit by The Damsels of Dorkington (not British, so just think of them as the Spice Girls if they performed at Renaissance fairs). After News of the Stupid, we explain the unexplained (rash), the usual pluggery of the Funny Music Project (The FuMP dot com), and we finally get the definitive answer as to why specifically “Star Trek V” sucked so much. Yes, life is but a dream.

  1. RANDOM NOTES ON THE SHOW!

Luke, how can you forget SPACED, Shaun of the Dead, and Hot Fuzz? Simon Pegg, Edgar Wright and Nick Frost win all!

    Carrie…YES! RED DWARF FTW! ^_^

Mullet-esque is my Lynrd Skynrd cover band…

I enjoy that Carrie’s improvs all feature “fuck” over and over…

Ghostbusters reference FTW in News of the Stupid.

    The promo bumper is AWESOME.

I want to know the origin of “A Visit from the great Luke Ski” from What A Rip-Off Vol 2 and “The La…”, wait, not released yet? Nevermind.

Yay! My song is plugged! ^_^

Basket of Insanity is still a great phrase…see also the Funny Music Podcast for my comment on this.

May not be at Nerdapalooza 2010? GHCM.

Dutchy Lawyer Guy is passed on the left-hand side.

The B-Anal Frontier I think is a Star Trek porno…

    Overall, great episode…YAY!

    ELLIPSIS!

  2. Luke and Carrie I have two all burning questions. What would be the sequel to Shock Treatment, and Where the fuck is Denton? As for British Comedies that are full of win is Red Dwarf, Flying Circus, Are you Being Served, and Faulty Towers.

  3. Okay, another idea for Wild Wild West, instead of “World Wide Web”, which is, like a lot of people agree, pretty outdated, how about a recently released video game?

Red Dead Mess, based off the hit game Red Dead Redemption. Basically themed around John Marston lamenting having to be the entire state of New Austin’s errand boy, amidst a game with bizarre glitches and inexplicable cougar attacks.

  4. Re: Flat-29

As a fan of British humour, I took the time try their podcasts. They are clever, and the production quality is good; but I found it very topical to Great Briton’s news and events. Since I’m not following their news on a day to day basis, it didn’t hold my interest enough to replace any of my other podcasts. Consider that a good thing – Bad Report and the all Fump podcasts won over Flat 29

  5. (Sorry Luke and Carrie I’m just going to butt in on your comments page)

    Re: Re: Flat-29

    Hi Sean,

You make a valid point about the topicality of some of Flat 29’s podcasts, when were the ones you listened to from?

The earlier ones were more reliant on comment on topical issues but as the podcast as developed and the overseas audience has grown, there has been an effort to mention less UK specific issues (Although we do have to mention the odd one or two as this keeps us British).

Have you heard the episode ‘The Time Travelling Musical Adventures of Sherlock Holmes: The Musical’?
Not only did Luke do some awesome artwork for it but I’m not sure it could get any less topical…

  6. Hey Charlie,

Charlie, I’ll respond in the Episode #26 comments.

    Sean
