Episode #088 – Funny Balls

This episode was edited using a process commonly referred to as ‘throwing it together in a big God damn hurry’, so that I could post it before I left for Omaha. I was successful, in that I was able to start uploading the MP3 to the server from home before I left, and am now posting it to the feed from a hotel room in Coralville, Iowa.

In this episode: Luke tells a few caricature stories which are low on humor and high on Luke yelling like a maniac; we read people’s comments on Puppet Video Episode #3, “Worst Tribute Ever”, and LukeSkiCon 2013, including the longest comment ever in recorded history by Kornflake of the Flopcast; Carrie and I do a track-by-track analysis of “Worst Tribute Ever”, and play a few more tracks from it by Blythe Renay of the Damsels Of Dorkington, TV’s Kyle, and The Chris Waffle Explosion; there’s also a quick recap of CONvergence, and tracks by Insane Ian and Mr. B The Gentleman Rhymer.

Feel free to leave us more comments here on Luke & Carrie’s Bad Rapport Video Episode #3, because I haven’t received enough praise on it yet, dammit! Comments! The emotional currency that give artists the feeling of worth! Hooray!!!

Episode length: 2:43:07

  1. As a parent of a 13 year old, I would be extremely upset had I found out my daughter pulled a stunt like the one that happened at Ed’s. My first thought upon hearing it also was the swallowed toothpick from the House episode.

Thank you for discussing the WTE set. I did not know all the references that were made in the collection or the details from some of the original songs.

When Carrie asked me about doing a track for the album, Jack Bauer was one of my initial thoughts though I dismissed it as the song is 6:24 in length. When I figured out how to do a version that is 27% of the full song, I decided the original title would not be appropriate.

Though I had a backing track on my iPod at French Quarter, I was not up for performing it by the time the DJ figured out how he could have done it without putting his computer at risk.

  2. Long-time listener, first-time commenter I think. Love WTE, thank you Luke for being the inspiration, and thank you Carrie for putting this together!

The inspiration for Flat 29’s version of “Murder Was The Play” is the tune “Murder She Wrote,” which was a big hit in the U.K. for Jamaican reggae duo Chaka Demus and Pliers.

  3. Personally, I think Shoebox’s performance of the Weed Fart Song is the greatest power ballad since Stop Forwarding That Crap To Me.

  4. Yay, PODCAST!!!!
(^^ That’s originally all I was gonna say this time. Because I’m pretty sure I exceeded my entire-lifetime quota for commenting on the previous episode.)
I love that Luke helps Carrie with the laundry in general in life! People who help people with laundry are my favorite people.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the Luke Ski Con Insane Ian interview on The Flopcast. We had the best time showing just how much we rule at being distracted. (Thank goodness Kevin rules at editing.)
Have I mentioned that my dog is a huge fan of Bad Rapport? Cali-pup can’t get enough of your podcast. She did a super cute head-tilt when Carrie was saying “Fun-ny Balls!”
And I do plan to be at MarsCon 2014! FuMPFest too, if I can swing it.
ps: I’m an East Coastie, and I am not a disgusting breakfast cereal! Unless I’m burping. Or making a crude joke. Or I haven’t showered yet. Or I’m covered in seaweed after a hangout with my lobster homies.
Eh, who am I trying to kid? I AM a disgusting breakfast cereal.
    That’s all.

  5. Hey Look! I’m commenting! So here ya go, some insight to my contribution to “Worst. Tribute. Ever.”

Yeah, I chose “I Love You TiVo” partially because of the irony of Luke and I having been criticized for our vocal abilities…maybe not consciously until after I recorded it, but I’m sure the thought was there. The main reason I chose the accapella version to cover (with added percussion of finger snaps) was because I’ve always wanted to do a DooWop style song or an accapella track, and this was a good excuse to do so. While I love your parodies, I love your originals even more, Luke, and I wanted to try one to see if I could do it justice. Plus, Ben is actually IN a barbershop quartet-style accapella group, I had that assistance. And for the record, Carrie, I actually am not using autotune (much) on this. We melodyned (which is pitch correction, where as autotune is pitch adjustment) one or two notes, but everything from the bridge before the spoken word bit through the end is unfiltered. Regardless, I hope you liked my version, and I hope I did it justice. I’m just happy to have been included. ^_^

Also, your video for Death Star is amazing and fantastic and I hate you for being awesome. That’s a lie, you’re aqwesome, I can’t hate you, I’m just insanely jealous. SEE? It’s not just a clever name.

  6. Hey Steve,

Somehow, your comment slipped through the cracks, and we didn’t read it in the new episode. If you’re willing, please leave a comment for the new one I’m about to post, and that will remind me to read your previous comment as well. Sorry about that! 🙂

    Luke
