Episode #037 – Forced Yammering

In this violence-packed episode, Carrie extols the deliciousness of Starbucks Cake Pops while demanding the immediate swift death of any innocent creatures she dislikes that happen to come too close to her. Luke discusses the concept of a “forced parody” song, citing all the examples from his own career when he tried to crobar a pop song and a subject matter together that made about as much sense as hot-gluing a wombat to a sewing machine. They also discuss getting ambushed by bank trainees, drive-thru etiquette, and a mysterious birthday song from Luke’s past. Much less mysterious are the awesome comedy songs we play by Hard ‘N Phirm, Mike Phirman, The Boobles, and Devo Spice, whose new album “GNOME SANE” drops on April 1st, so mark your calendars and buy the album on iTunes that day for $9.99 to receive the album on CD, plus a bonus CD and download from Devo Spice, visit the preceding link for all the details.

  1. Podcasterbation and Anime face of Contentment both opened for Scooter Picnic last week. One was an A-Log on the Airwaves cover band, the other was a Luke & Carries Bad Rapport cover band. Since those are both radio shows/podcasts…it was weird. It was fun to guess which was which tho…

  2. I was surprised to hear Luke be so down on Use The Force seeing as that was the song that made me a fan. I guess it’s the Dementia equivalent of Christopher Plummer’s hatred of The Sound of Music.

  3. Love the chibi drawing. I heard the episode before going to the site and since I listened at work, I have a computer where I can comment just after listening.

As far as forced parodies, I could not think of many partially since many of Luke’s (and some of Carrie’s) songs are parodies of songs I do not know. Crusin’ USA was the first one that came to mind.

My in-laws do the birthday addenum song you mentioned. Personally I do not find myself a fan of it.

  4. I was driving through the Chicagoland area the other day, and I saw a billboard that said “Chicagoland”, and it made me think of Bad Rapport. I’m pretty sure there were other words on the billboard that might give an indication of its purpose in being there, but I don’t remember what they might have been. I was too busy being overwhelmed by omg 5 lanes of traffic and trying not to get lost and things like that.

  5. The coda to Happy Birthday that I learned was “Hold old are you now?” repeated 4 times, with the person’s name instead of “now” in the 3rd repetition.

  6. Yeah, I need to reread my poss before hitting submit. “HOW old are you now?” is the coda I learned.

  7. Chicago Land! The Valentine’s Massacre-iest Place on Earth! Bring the kids on down to Uncle Scarface’s Speakeasy, and remember, the codeword is “Swordfish!”

  8. I can only identify one other forced parody… Flat 29 Choo Choo – but that one’s not really your fault.

I’d never heard of that addition to Happy Birthday, but it sounds good. I might liberate that for my daughter. The ending we learned was “How old are you now? How old are you now? You look like a monkey and you act like one too”
