Episode #067 – Odd New Wave

This episode breaks our previously not kept track of record for the most number of separate days that segments were recorded for it, that being 4.

In this installment of Bad Rapport… Luke continues to experiment with the Zoom H2 recorder… Carrie & Luke review “Rock Of Ages”… Bad Rapport crosses-over with the Scope‘s coverage of ConVergence 2012 (check their latest episode to hear it from their recorder)… Carrie talks about her favorite sugary breakfast cereals…

Also News of the Stupid, and cameo appearances by Jared Ringold, Shane Palmersheim, Sara Trice, Josh Rasey, and Alex the ever-present. Music this episode by Taco, Murray Head, Golden Earring, Thomas Dolby, Timbuk 3, & Falco. Why? Because shut up, that’s why.

At the very end, check out the new FuMPcast ID by Phil Proctor & David Ossman of Firesign Theatre, pictured here with Luke in his Radio Now eyeball hat. Weirdly cool!

Episode length: 2:25:44

  1. The age-old question: If a baby giggles in the hallway and nobody is there to hear, does he still get drool on his shirt?

LukeSkiCon: You got to book it like it’s hot.

  2. AWESOME music breaks in this episode. It took me right back to ’86. Even better, Falco kicked in just before I got to work – perfect way to start the day.

Special note… since I first watched Young Frankenstein, it has forever had me singing along to “Puttin’ on the Ritz” as “The Monster”. Now I have to go dig up that version. Ahhh… Geek-Problems.

  3. Something to be aware of with the shift from 64k mono to 64k stereo: while 64k is sufficient for clear stereo speech, you can hear the compression in the stereo music. Double the channels (left and right) means only half as much bandwidth for music. To keep the same audio quality as before, you should encode at 128k for stereo.

  4. My mom taught nutrition, so we never had any sugary cereals around the house either. I still don’t like them, though, so it doesn’t always backfire. Also, I never put salt or butter on anything. (She’s a PhD biochemist, not a fad-diet-of-the-week nutritionist, BTW.)

  5. While listening to the songs, most of them in my head was the parody or alternate version of the songs played.

Four year ago at Convergence they had an election featuring Dr. Evil, Dr. Strangelove (who got my vote) and Dr. Horrible (who won in a landslide). I am guessing the debate you saw was part of the 2012 campaign.

  6. Luke you asked something along the lines of do people you don’t know listen to the show? Well yes they do I am in Auckland New Zealand and am a big fan of both of your works. Is there any chance that you would make it down to my part of the world as see you any any other fump acts live would make me so very happy and the new video show look great. oh you said on the fump cast that you had made a list of new ways songs (i think thats the types of music) could you please post that somewhere as I would like to hear more thanks

  7. This is going to be one of multiple comments so I don’t have to remember it all after listening over multiple days. I like listening to Luke and Carrie in stereo, please keep that. Alex is a funny baby who is stealing the show again. Blblblblblblblb!!!!

  8. I’m 41 and I still like sugary cereals for breakfast. My mom’s rule was we could only get it if the first listed ingredient wasn’t sugar. So we could have Trix, but not Froot Loops. My newest favorite is Blueberry Muffin Tops – it’s a bagged cereal by Malt-O-Meal, and the only bagged cereal that I’ve seen that isn’t (at least as far as I know) a copy of a boxed cereal. It’s like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, but with blueberry flavor. Yummy!

  9. When you were talking about shows based on music, I was glad you brought up Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah. I had a chance to see it several years ago, and I highly recommend it for the FuMP crowd!

  10. First of all, GREAT between segment music this episode!! I want to know when this becomes “Luke’s & Carrie’s & Alex’s Bad Rapport” because I still get a kick out of Alex’s contributions (sometimes also known as Luke’s entertaining of Alex). Overall this was a great episode. I can’t point at any one thing that made it so good, it just was good for the whole length of it.

  11. Having just now heard the comments read this episode, I already made the Luke & Carrie & Alex suggestion. Grumble, stupid repeating myself… So when will you make that official? 🙂

  12. Carrie, I don’t appear to need any of your merchandise at this time, but I did make a donation directly to Angel Covers. Excellent song, congratulations on getting Luke to do more work for you.
