Episode #016 – Cultural Shorts

It’s our shortest podcast since Episode 8 back in January, clocking in at a mere 1:36. Carrie and Josh have returned from their 1st Anniverary trip to Hawaii via Arizona, and in this episode they tell us all about it. After News of the Stupid, Luke rants about the ignorance of Fedex Office, makes an announcement regarding his next album, and tells of baffling requests for caricatures of celebrities. This episode also has Hawaiian music by Brak, Spike Jones, and Barnes & Barnes, as well as one of the remakes from the great Luke Ski’s Greatest Hits 2-CD set. So as they say in Hawaii, Auf Wiedersehen!

  1. 15-point-5 and 16 were great shows. Especially thank you, Carrie and Josh, for your report on your Hawaiian honeymoon.

Your encounter with the Japanese tourists, who were laughing and cutting up at the USS Arizona memorial, is a good lesson for us all. For years, we’ve heard about The Ugly American – the conceited, rich tourist who goes to other countries, treats the natives like dirt, and insists that America is better than the place he’s visiting.

Guess what? People like that come from every country. Since I started working in the tourist business, there have been selected visitors – from many different countries – who come to America and act like jerks. I get treated like a hillbilly and a serf just because, when I get a spare moment, I sweep up the trash these folks leave anywhere. They think only pathetic peons sweep up after rich people like them, and they give us needed work when they spit their bubble gum on the sidewalk and walls.

As I say, thanks for pointing this out. And I swear I’m going to get you and Josh your wedding/anniversary presents, by hook or by crook, this week. Gee, they’re only a year late. Luke, given my record, the stuff for you and Sara may take almost as long, so don’t feel disappointed. 🙂
