Episode #058 – No Genocide For Me

There aren’t a lot of podcasts out there that post a show on Valentine’s Day with the word ‘genocide’ in the title I’d bet.

Anyway, In this episode, Carrie tells us of Alex’s continuing expedition down the birth canal, Luke talks about the 27 million projects he’s working on, we both discuss the dream jobs we wanted when we were kids, and we do a sloppy unprepared review of an excellent album, “Secret Handshake” by Flat 29.

There’s also funny music by Nuclear Bubble Wrap, Jesus H. Christ and the 4 Hornsmen Of The Apocalypse, and a song from “Smash” written by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman performed by Megan Hilty.

So cuddle up by the fire with your significant other and do the nasty while listening to Luke Ski promote MarsCon 2012. I know nothing makes me hornier.

  1. And now an unrequested addition to You Do The Research:

The pipe organ (Forte) in “Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas” was actually voiced by Tim Curry. Frollo from “The Hunchback of Notre Dame” was voiced by Tony Jay who had also voiced Monsieur D’Arque in “Beauty and the Beast” (the guy that ran the asylum).

    And there you have it.

    Thanks for another great episode.

  2. Luke and Carrie, your discussion of “what I wanted to be” was an amazing exercise. One of the first people I wanted to be as a kid was a lawyer, because I used to watch Perry Mason on TV. I thought all lawyers were well-dressed, drove neat cars and easily solved people’s legal problems within an hour. (Ridiculous, huh?)

Well, several jobs down…and currently looking for a new job…I realize that I have to do what I love outside of a job. It’d be nice to make money doing what you love, but very few are that lucky. You and Carrie are lucky to be able to create great comedy and storytelling, and at least kind of break even while doing it.

Thanks for your usual great podcast, and opening up your lives to the public. It takes something special to let your souls be exposed to psychotic freaks like us on a regular basis. Thanks! And by the way, Carrie, I still say you look terrific! Please don’t make Luke record Bad Rapport while you’re undergoing labor.

  3. Yay that I got mentioned on the Dr. Demento Show, even though I am behind on it and haven’t heard that show yet. I need to request the song again.
Great show this “week”. Since I was unable to get my “dream job” as a comic book writer or artist, I settled for my next choice: computer programmer, although I spent most of the last 15 years doing software testing more than programming.
I will miss you and Alex at MarsCon this year. Oh, and Josh too.

  4. Stupid “Pregnancy is Strange”; as Carrie’s due date nears, that pops up in my head more and more, and I’m wondering if there are any new verses soon to be written. Everybody sing along! “Labor Pains are WAAAAAAAUIUUUUGGGGHHHH!!!!” Okay, scratch that, let’s just skip to the verse where the Epidural kicks in.

Just wondering why nobody’s done a cover of LMFAO’s “Party Rock Anthem” for September 19th. Party Rock, Pirate Rock… Every Day I’m Shuffling, Everyday Swashbuckling… practically writes itself.

And when October rolls around, Carrie can redo her song as “Lycanthropy is Strange”. Which I suppose it is.

Meanwhile, good luck with MarsCon.. I should be out in the Minnesota area myself soon, but not in time for that one. When I travel out of state, I tend to only be able to do the conventions I can get a table at. Will you be doing PenguiCon this year? Or… are you kinda giving up on Michigan altogether?

Since this began with commenting on Valentine’s day… allow me to recite a poem:

Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, (quoting Airplane!) Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue.

Man, save Tin Tin, every single animated movie you just mentioned was horrible. I didn’t see any of them, and I can’t even stand to look at the commercials of Polar Express for more than a few seconds. TinTin thankfully only really had that “Uncanny Valley” problem with the opera singer, who looked like less of a cgi construct, and more of a woman in a weird rubber mask.

So Luke, what are your thoughts on the Epic Rap Battles of History videos? And why hasn’t Weird Al Yancovic released a Karaoke album yet? Whatever happened to MC Hawking?

  5. Actually bar1, there have been quite a few takes on the LMFAO song, including one about Pokemon that begins with the phrase “ev’ry day I’m catchin’ ’em.” I come across them on YouTube quite a bit. It’s like I can’t escape that song between that and commercials and even references on other podcasts I listen to like Citizen Radio. Because LMFAO and their hipster zombie brigade is just the kind of thing you expect to hear on a podcast about left wing atheist vegan activism, right? Like the Vincent E.L. song says, “Ev’ry day I’m suffering…”

  6. @Arkle Wow… so it’s just *I* didn’t notice it being done to death. Ah well. Just goes to show that I ain’t got what it takes to be part of the FuMP. So I’ll just stick to my drawrings. (Misspelled on purpose. It’s a SNL reference.)

And exactly how many podcasts can you really wring out of veganism? Figure you’d dry out that well pretty quick.

  7. @Arkle: Aha. Say, do you think they’ll read these last few replies? If they do, does taht mean we can start putting words into their mouth like in that one Worm Quartet/TVs Kyle duet?

  8. bar1: That would be cool actually. If they do that though they should use the Daffy Duck voice for me since that’s my Avatar of choice. No, really. I’ve been using the Daffy as Green Lantern image as an avatar for going on 8 years. I’m thinking of getting a tattoo of the full image on my arm. A few fans of my podcast tell me that that’s the image they think of when they think about me, even though I do have a picture of myself on my blog and several more on my Facebook. I’ve lost like 100 pounds since the majority of those pics were taken though, maybe I should update them.

  9. Gah, when I was a kid I never wanted to be anything when I grew up. That could lead into another story about why I hate “creative writing” exercises, but I’ll spare you.

    Unrelated:

I recently came across Professor Elemental, do you know of him? He does some funny rap with a steampunk theme.

  10. to be read only if next episode comes out before Marscon

I am high jacking the podcast to talk about… MARSCON!! Folks, at Marscon not only is there all the great concerts, there’s also tons of cool comedy music fans. As the self appointed leader of said fans, I plan other group events at Marscon. I use to know all the folks showing up Marscon, but last year, about 4 people showed up who we never knew before. While this is great and awesome, they missed out on some of the other events because I couldn’t tell them about them before hand. If you are going to Marscon and haven’t heard about the 3 group dinners, the pool party, the group photo shoot, or the Boob Tree game, then CONTACT ME!!! Puttwill@gmail.com! MARSCON!!!
