Episode #085 – Suit Your Nudes

In this episode which was recorded mostly on Mother’s Day, Luke presents Carrie with her Mother’s Day gift from himself and Sara, which gets immediately critiqued by 14-month-old art critic Alex. Later that day, Josh was given large amounts of middle-eastern bread, but that has nothing to do with this podcast.

Carrie launches a new segment “Dahlby’s Dreamsicles”, where she tells us about her strange dreams, with Luke adding one of his own that is most definitely Insane-Ian-related.

In ‘Silver Lining Reviews’, Luke talks about the latest Michael Bay movie “Pain And Gain”, and Carrie talks about the Trey & Matt musical “The Book Of Mormon”.

We also get caught up with 3 episodes worth of comments, and play comedy tracks by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, Eric Coleman, Patton Oswalt, The Book Of Mormon, The Lonely Island, and C.W.A..

The art image for this episode of the Rock riding a skateboard was drawn by Lindsay Smith. ‘Cuz she’s cool like dat.

Episode #084 – KCAI: Kyle Carrozza Art Institute

Fact: I learned more about how to animate from Kyle Carrozza in one afternoon than I learned in my 4 years at an expensive fine arts college in Kansas City.

This epic 4 HOUR, 18 MINUTE LONG episode of Bad Rapport chronicles my recent trip to the Los Angeles area to mow the lawn of my Kickstarter super-donor Bob “Number 11” Mathews at his birthday party, where I also did a house concert with the aforementioned TV’s Kyle and his bubbly long-time girlfriend Lindsay Smith, who also put me up at their place in Burbank for the majority of the trip. The three of us also collaborated on this episode’s artwork.

Those of you who have an aversion to long episodes, fear not, for I have edited this episode so that our talk segments only last 15 to 20 minutes each, followed by a 4-minute-ish music break, so that my droning on and on doesn’t get too tedious. This episode’s comedy tracks are by MC Skat Kat, Ookla The Mok, Game Grumps, Eric Houg, Craig Ferguson, Engine Sentai Go-onger, Jonathan Coulton, Garfunkel & Oates, Gilbert Gottfried, Rob Cantor, Tony Goldmark, Tally Hall, T.J. Miller, and John Lithgow.

So prepare to take a vacation to sunny L.A. in the theatre of your mind, and if you haven’t already, please donate to the “Under The Smogberry Trees” Kickstarter before it ends on May 4th, so that there can finally be a feature length documentary about Dr. Demento!

Episode #083 – Shatner Face

That look of surprise on Captain Kirk’s face will be the same one you have when you learn that this episode is under 90 minutes long! See? I told you. The first 30 minutes of this episode has Alex in it, so if you’re not interested in his ever rapidly developing vocabulary, then you might want to skip it. Carrie tells us about their trip to Arizona, Josh has an ignorance story involving a cable company customer service rep, and Luke tells us how he broke his record for sneaking snacks into the cinema.

Later, Kyle joins Luke to hear him recap MarCon. We also play comedy music by The FuMP, Ookla The Mok, The Arrogant Worms, Jim Carrey, and some classic Dr. Demento era tunes by Doodles Weaver, Mark McCollum, Ivor Cutler, and Billy & The Boingers to help promote the “Under The Smogberry Trees” Kickstarter to produce a feature length documentary film about Dr. Demento! There’s a lot of great prizes for donating, so if you have the extra cash, please donate today!

Episode #082 – Collate Your Ducks

In this episode, Luke & Carrie go to Golf Mill Mall in Niles, Illinois, just because Carrie wanted to be somewhere that wasn’t the inside of a house. We get caught up on 3 episodes worth of comments, Carrie fills us in on the new proto-words in Alex’s vocabulary, and in a last bit of MarsCon 2013 wrap-up, Luke shows Carrie some of the ‘Boob Tree’ game cards from this year (go to the comments to get links to the images, and tips on green screening). We also reminisce about old commercial jingles & campaigns of the early to mid 80’s, and do the first (albeit sloppy, unprepared, distracted, and somewhat out of breath) installment of a new segment called “Silver Lining Reviews”, where Luke talks about “The Incredible Burt Wonderstone“, and Carrie talks about her new favorite video game app. We also have funny songs by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis featuring Wanz, Ricky Gervais & Dom Johnson, The Nick Atoms, Katherine McPhee & Christian Borle, Animaniacs, & Jimmy Fallon & Justin Timberlake. In the end the big question is, ‘is Luke Ski famous enough in the eyes of Mad Magazine?’ The answer, ‘probably not’.

Episode #081 – Kyle & Luke Talk About Cartoons #4

In this episode, TV’s Kyle and the great Luke Ski discuss the animated features of 2012, telling us what they loved and what they ‘meh’-ed.

Spoiler alert: Their top 2 favs of the year were “Wreck-It Ralph” and “Hotel Transylvania”, like that’s a surprise to anyone.

They also talk about the Simpsons, Beauty and the Beast, and the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show.

Will Kyle & Luke ever get around to making this its own podcast? Based on how busy they both are, probably not.

So if you want to volunteer to do all the hard work for us to make it a reality, let us know.

Episode #080 – Retainer Container

MarsCon 2013 was so epic, it takes us over 3 hours to properly recap it.

Along the way there is a special appearance by Flat 29 recorded live at Mickey’s Diner in St. Paul…

…as well as music by the Muppets, Scooter Picnic, Todrick Hall, Insane Ian, Mikey Mason, Carrie Dahlby, and TV’s Kyle, who also makes an appearance at the end of the episode.

Speaking of Kyle, coming to this podcast feed in a couple days is another installment of Kyle & Luke talk about cartoons, so stay tuned cartoon-talk fans!

Episode #079 – Project Burnout

In this episode, we call Ken for his Superbowl predictions…

…We tell stories of childhood triumph and tragedy…

…And Luke breaks down for everyone a list representative of 4 months worth of projects that he has worked on or is still working on to best illustrate just what he is up against when it comes to battling against becoming completely burnt out on working on projects.

We also have News of the Stupid, and comedy tracks by The Soggy Bottom Boys, Jeff Altman, Mitch & Mickey, Insane Clown Posse, The Arrogant Worms, Garfunkel and Oates, Tangerine Kitty, Paul & Storm, and The Lonely Island.

This episode is big and good, hot and spicy, SWEET AND MEATY!

Episode #078 – MUSICALS SPECIAL

When I arrived at Carrie’s house to record today’s episode, I had some prepared topics to talk about, one of which was movie & Broadway musicals. Our discussion on that topic went at least twice as long as I had thought it would. When I went home and started trying to pick songs from those musicals to play on the show, the list of tunes I wanted to include kept growing and growing until I said, ‘Screw it, I’m making this a special.’ That is why at no time during this episode do we mention that this is the Bad Rapport MUSICALS SPECIAL which ended up being just under 4 hours long. The first third of this podcast is mostly us talking, doing our usual ‘what have Carrie & Luke been up to lately’ segments, plus News of the Stupid. The latter two-thirds is the Musical Special and is so jammed packed with music, it’ll make you break into a spontaneous dance number at your cubicle. So prepare yourself to hear awesome classic showtunes featuring Robert Preston, Kevin Kline, Tim Curry, Caroll Burnett, Steve Martin, Jim Broadbent, Catherine Zeta Jones, Sasha Baron Cohen, Helena Bonham Carter, and a cover by Big Daddy. Until next time, break a leg, everybody.

Episode #077 – Mint Loaf Custody Hearing

It’s New Year’s Eve, and what better way is there to spend the evening  and say goodbye to 2012 than to listen to some of the best comedy music of this year that slipped through the cracks and somehow never got played on any of our previous 2012 Bad Rapport episodes? Well, there’s probably a lot of better ways to spend the evening on New Year’s Eve, but tough, you’re stuck with awesome tunes by Smashy Claw, Kobi LaCroix, Morning Sidekick, Power Salad, TV’s Kyle, Consortium Of Genius, Ookla The Mok, Paul & Storm, Tenacious D, Devo Spice, and Cookie Monster.

These tracks and many others played earlier this year on Bad Rapport are all fine contenders to be suggestions for nominations for the 2013 Logan Awards, so please head over to the website between January 1st through 14th and get your suggestions in while you still can!

Also in the episode, Luke and Carrie tell us about heir respective Christmas hauls (double meaning inferred), discuss geeky traditions of various holidays throughout the whole year, read some News of the Stupid, and there’s some more caricature stories which contain just enough sweet, sweet ignorance to make Luke Ski smack his forehead quite loudly, captured in glorius 128k digital stereo, so keep an ear out for that.

Thanks for listening everyone, and we’ll talk to you all again in 2013!
